Wedding Favors on a budget
Planning a wedding is expensive. Wedding favors are one of those little extras that can cost you a good penny. It’s to a point where you ask yourself “Are Wedding Favors Necessary?” But you can save money on favors by doing them yourself or at the local farmer’s market. These are some ideas for affordable and unique wedding favors:

honey jars
Place the honey jars on each table or at the entrance of the reception.
Make sure to have a sign that says “thank you for coming”, especially if you are having a wedding reception in a banquet hall, where it is common for people to forget to bring their favors home or even leave them behind.
Write a personalized message to guests on each jar. On the label, write a short note that is meaningful to you and your partner. For example, “Thank you for coming! We love you!” Use a pen or sharpie in black so it can be easily read and doesn’t smear off when wet with jam.
Use an easy-to-read font. Choose something simple, like Times New Roman or Arial—this will make it easier for guests to understand what they’re reading and make them more likely to read all of it before putting the jar back into their bag!
Avoid complicated wording if possible—you don’t want your labels getting cut off by anyone!
Honey is a great favor to use because it’s inexpensive, and you can buy it in bulk.
You can also find jars with lids that come pre-labeled for honey in bulk as well, so all you have to do is add the label with your names on it! This makes for an inexpensive favor that looks like something from a high-end retailer.

Save money by doing them yourself
If you’re creative and able to follow directions well, making your own honey jars is a great way to save money on favors. You can buy a jar and lid from a craft store, or use something you already have around the house.
Another option is to buy a honey dispenser from a craft store and fill it with any type of honey local to your home. You’ll want to make sure it has some kind of label so people know what they’re getting!
Finally, if none of these options work for you (or if you don’t want to deal with storing jars), just go ahead and buy some delicious bottles of quality American-made organic local honey at your grocery store or farmer’s market for about $5 each!
It might seem like an expensive choice at first glance but the cost per serving will still be significantly less than most other types of favors out there.”
I have seen these cute honey jars may at many weddings in Albany with our photo booth business.
Homemade jam
- Make your own jam! The process is simple and the rewards are many. You can make it as basic or fancy as you want; we prefer a no-cook method like our Strawberry Rhubarb Jam with Bourbon, which requires only two ingredients (and one of those is optional).
- Packaging: Jam is best stored in jars that have been washed and sterilized ahead of time with boiling water, but if you don’t want to go through all that effort, plastic containers will do just fine—just be sure to label them clearly so whoever receives your gift doesn’t think they’re getting strawberry jelly for their toast tomorrow morning!
- Cost: A half-pint jar of homemade rhubarb strawberry jam costs about $2 to make at home—significantly less than what most grocery stores charge for premade versions!

Edible wildflower seed packets
You may be surprised to learn that wildflower seeds are one of the most affordable options on this list.
They can be purchased in bulk, and many flower shops will offer a variety of colors and sizes.
Wildflowers are easy to plant—simply stick them in a pot or garden and water them regularly—and they require very little maintenance once they’ve sprouted.
Finally, although you might not think of them as such at first glance, wildflowers are beautiful!
Who doesn’t love bright yellow daisies or white lilies?
If you’re looking for something that adds some color to your wedding without costing too much money or being too time-intensive (or just not having enough space), then wildflower seeds could be what you need!

Handwritten notes
Handwritten notes are a great way to go if you are looking for something personal and special.
You can buy pre-made cards, or make your own from scratch.
If you want to write the card yourself, think about what you will write on it.
Will it be a poem? Perhaps a quote from one of your favorite movies?
If you have trouble coming up with something clever and unique, try getting creative with the design of the card itself!
One idea is to create an original design based on your invitation or wedding theme.
There are plenty of templates available online that let you add text boxes, clip art, and other effects so that each card looks completely different than the last one.
Another option would be ordering custom note cards featuring photographs taken at an event leading up to or celebrating marriage equality (such as an engagement party

Personalized wine stoppers
Get a box of wine stoppers from a party store.
Put the stopper in hot water for 10 seconds, then place it on a paper towel to dry off for about 15 minutes or so until cool enough to handle (you don’t want to burn yourself).
Use acrylic paint or sharpies to personalize them.
Let them dry completely

Cute wedding cake candles
Candles are a popular wedding favor and you can find some cute inexpensive options.

That’s all there is to it! Wedding favors don’t have to be expensive and they can be as simple or elaborate as you want. Even wedding magazines such as Love & Lavender suggest these budget-friendly options.
